We were at Goodwill in another town on Saturday and they had absolutely nothing but they’re right next door to my favorite store The Classy Flea. So I thought I’d pop in while my husband and daughter were looking for books. I didn’t intend on buying anything – just went to look.
So I walk around and see lots of yummy things and am kicking myself for not taking my camera when what do I see –

Yes! A red transferware soup tureen!! I looked at the tag and it said As Is $14!!
Honestly, I looked at that tag a few times – it couldn’t be right? I didn’t have my reading glasses on me and the writing was really small (wish I had my camera so you could all see). So I’m thinking is it really $14? It looks like it says $14. So I go up to the register….I’m holding my breath…ready to say “I’ve changed my mind” because I think they’re going to tell me it was $74 or $114. I was sure I misread the tag. It was….
Yes, $14.84 with tax!! I told her they made my day. I’ve been wanting a transferware soup tureen but they’re out of my price range on ebay. This one even has a lid and undertray, no soup spoon though. Why was it so inexpensive?
Because it has this crack! Like I care!! So I had to re-arrange my china cabinet to make room for my new treasure.
I love you my pretty!
That is the only piece of antique transferware I have. All the rest have been found at thriftstores, TJ Maxx, ebay and my dear friend Linda sent me some.
I decided to hang my cups that I just found at Goodwill. Oh, I better wipe the .35 off the bottoms!
Soon it’ll be time to redo this cabinet and put away that middle shelf of dishes. Those are my fall/winter Johnson Brother Friendly Village and other brown transferware. I think a shelf of white would look pretty. Then it’ll be red, white and blue!
Rhonda in OK says

I am very envious! I have a red transferware tureen, but it is new and the white is really a grey color. I bought it on ebay, thinking I had gotten a wonderful buy….under it came in the mail. Live and learn.
I love your snow pics…it is fun to have a little snow when we are not too used to it!

What a lovely soup tureen and I love your attitude that it doesn’t matter that it has a small crack. It looks lovely in your collection!
The snow looks so pretty, especially on the angel. We had about a foot of snow today and I don’t think it’ll be gone quite as quickly. I loved seeing your pictures.

Dyou just love when things like that happen. Congradulations on your find! Love the cabinet of transferware. Yeah, red, White, and Blue for the Summer!
As for the snow. That is just a mere “dusting” as we say her in the North. Now here 12″ is snow. Yeah, I realize the novelty of it in the south, like flowers appearing in early May here.
Vee says
Wowser! What a find!
The way that you do your hutch is so intriguing to me with the layers of different colors. I’d never have thought to do anything like that, but it is so pleasing.

Lucky You! What a great find! You have a fabulous transferware collection. I love your ‘red, white, and blue” idea for your cabinet. It’ll be just perfect for spring and summer.
I can’t believe all of the snow went south of us. We had about and hour of flurries that didn’t stick at all, not even on the steps. I am looking forward to the 70 degree temps that are supposed to greet us this weekend. I’ll bet you are excited as well!
Enjoy your week,

….and I only found a white one last week – OK though because I collect white/cream ones and now have 8 (see it on today’s post). I keep saying I’ll have that soup supper party – you know, 3 or 4 homemade soups with crusty breads, perhaps a couple of nice French cheeses, and a big ‘ole English sherry-laced trifle for dessert – I’ll invite you!!!!
Hugs – it’s warming up again but still ice on my back deck.

Whoopee! I found your blog again after an accidental link brought me here…then Hubs was checking football scores and I lost you. But then I remembered to google bottle brush, nesting and transferware. And here you are again. Love your blog! Very inspiring. What a find too. I found a Quaker Lace table cloth at a a little shop near my home in California for seven dollars! It had one little yellow stain near the center, so easily covered.
