R.I.P Maxie

By Manuela Williams

I’m going to keep this short as I and my family are distraught beyond words. We had to put our beloved Maxie to sleep. He’d been ill for the past two weeks but we thought he was feeling better. Then he had a relapse and my husband took him to the emergency animal hospital. He had a tumor the size of a small frisbee in his stomach and kidney failure. How this came to be – no one can tell us. He just had his senior check up in June and supposedly was in good health for a 12 year old dog. So how  a tumor could have progressed to this size without being detected is beyond us. We are just devastated. He was such a good sweet loving boy.

I’m so very sorry, Manuela. We lost our Winston, in the same shocking, sudden manner. Our heads and hearts were reeling. Our pets are our children and to lose them is heartbreaking. Your Maxie was a beautiful boy. He will be with you always.

I will be keeping you in my prayers! When we have had to put our two elderly cats to sleep (sisters from the same litter), it really was as bad as if a human family member died. Grief is beyond words.

I am convinced God lets us have our furry family members with us again.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have not experienced this as Rock is our first dog but I know I would be devastated if something happened to him. They become such a sweet part of the family and we become so attached to our furry children. Maxie was adorable! I always admired him in the pictures you posted. Praying for God’s loving arms to wrap your family in the coming days.

Oh, Manuela, I’m so sorry! It’s Maxie’s picture that I came to know and love from your old Profile pic at The Pleasures of Homemaking.

I had to put my beloved Basset hound down when he was just shy of 12 years old. He was my first baby. He, too, had developed a tumor. That was one of the saddest days of my life.

I’m so very sorry. I pray that you will find some comfort in your wonderful memories of him. God bless you all.

I am so sorry for your loss! We just lost our ESS the end of June. She was 13 and was being kenneled while we were away for a 2 wk vacation. It was devastating. I had to shorten my trip to come home and be with her one last time. I so feel your pain…..
Big hugs!! It has been awhile since I have visited. I have been busy with our precious boy that we adopted from China in March of 2010. He is now 3. I had to let go of my other blog Our Cozy Cottage as there was just not enough time to keep it up chasing a 2 yr. old around the house! Some day I hope to go back to working on it.
    Big hugs!

I buried my face in Major’s bed. I dissolved in a heap in the floor where he slept in that bed. I walked around with a softball in my throat for weeks. Oh, how it hurts. I wanted to smell his smell and feel him. I MISSED HIM DREADFULLY. It rocked our family.

    Manuela,
My very deepest sympathy. It is such a huge loss. Your Maxie was a beauty and I know you are grateful for the time you had her, but darn it hurts so much when they leave us.
    Big hugs,
    Donna

So sorry to hear about Maxie. I had to put my peke to sleep years ago and I still miss him. It’s a hard thing to do and it’s something you think about often. Hang in there and know tht there are many people who are thinking of you and your family. Maxie will always be in your heart.

my son found an article about why well loved pets seem to get really ill and die quickly. It said that because of the loving attention the pet had gotten all it’s life, only something fast acting would not be caught. We had to have two dogs put to sleep a couple of years ago. One was 16 1/2 and the other about 12. We miss them and no matter the reason, it’s always hard. You have my sinceresty sympathies.

Manuela, I am so so sorry to hear your news. Haven’t stopped by in awhile, so I’m really sad for your family. I know how it feels to lose a dog this way, I had to put my dear sweet girl down almost 6 yrs. ago. IT’s a pain like no other. I promise you it will get better with time and you will have sweet, sweet memories of the life of your precious Maxie. I still would love to get together with you one of these days, so please keep that in mind too. xoxo

Dear Manuela, I am so sorry for you and your family. It hurts terribly to loose a beloved pet, but we still have memories and hopefully lots of pretty pictures to keep the memory alive.
    Best to you, Martina

Just read you post. I’m so sorry to near about your loss. Maxie looks so sweet in your pics. We had to put our 18 yr. Old Lhasa down last summer and I still miss her. I have wonderful memories of her and can now think of her without crying. Wish there was a magic cure for grieving but unfortunately we have to give it time. Thinking of you and hope in time the hurt will lessen and the good memories will fill your heart more than the pain.

Dear Manuela, I am so sorry about Maxie. I’ve just caught time this weekend to catch up with you and I can imagine how you must feel. Maxie looked like such a dear and I know he was great company for you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Maxie sounds like such a wonderful dog. I am also struck by the similarities to my own situation. On August 20, we had to euthanize our sweet lab-mix, Max, who was also 12 years old. He had been having neck pain for a while and we all thought it was a disc problem. We were all set to do surgery that day at the specialty clinic, when they did a pre-surgery CT and discovered it was a tumor on his spinal cord in the C1 area, and therefore wasn’t operable. It was so hard to let him go but we knew it was our only real choice. He was in so much pain the last couple of days, and I am at least comforted by the fact that we could stop his pain.

Take care, and know you did the best for your beloved Maxie.
