“Today I want to chat about how our pantry truly can be the start of “gourmet” cooking and fine dining… add in a few great cookbooks and a collection of inherited or thrifted china (and candles… must have candles)… and viola’, a meal as good as anything in the expensive restaurants.”

If you have been with me for a while, then you know that I love my Little House on the Prairie books! You also know that I re-read them all each winter (it’s something I look forward to and makes winter special for me). There are lots of things I love about these stories, but mostly I admire how people work together and help each other out. Also, how hard they work, yet they still make time for fun!
I recently found this really useful site SavingAdvice.com and came upon a post about things we can learn from the Little House TV Shows!
“I grew up watching Little House on the Prairie in the 70’s. Each episode had a moral to it, but it wasn’t until I staged a marathon viewing session courtesy of Netflix that I realized how many of those episodes dealt with the subject of money in some form. Maybe some of my money habits did come from TV, after all.”

382 sq. ft.? WOW…guess I shouldn't be complaining about the size of my "tiny" apartment! Mine is just over 1,000 sq ft (2 bedroom and 2 bath).
I love Little House! We have a local channel that airs the shows everyday at 5 o'clock. There IS more than just entertainment value in the shows. One of the few shows left that is worth watching.

Oh my daughter and I love Little House! I watched it back in the 70's but then in the 80's when my daughter was little we would watch it each night at 5:00 while eating dinner! We traveled three years ago to her last home it was so fun to see where she lived!

Love the new blog! I need more reading time!
"Little House on the Prairie" series are amazing, aren't they? I reread "Little Women" every year, too. What is it about these wonderful books? I think you hit it on the head when you said "community."
Have a great week!

It just goes to show most time we all don't need all the space we need.
While we were building our house my husband and I lived in his sister's small cottage. It was small by cozy. We lived without a lot of stuff for 6 months looking back I should have kept it that way.
Love the pantry links, still building mine.
Have a great day even if it's raining.

Oh my gosh I love little house books too! I read them all with my oldest daughter and can't wait to read them again with my second. It inspired me and now that I am homeschooling, our family works even better as a unit. One thing I think has been lost is the family unit working together. Since we began the homeschooling we have become so much tighter. The kids actually have to pitch in more, and I think Ma encountered the same. You can't get through the day waiting on people and survive. What a great gift being able to read these and still learn lessons from it. I intend to check out your links, looks like fun!

One of my all time favorite tv shows! I have the whole collection on DVD. I've seen the episodes over and over, and I don't get tired of them! Plus something I can watch with my kids. I'm such a huge fan, that even though I have every single episode, I watch it when it's on our local station as well! I know it's silly.

Manuela, Do you go to Laura Ingalls Gunn's blog, Decor to Adore. You know she is a relative of the real Little House family. What a wonderful winter read. I have always believed that any food tastes better when it is served in attractive surroundings on nice plates. laurie

Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog. You have inspired me in so many ways. I too have always enjoyed the Little House books, except I always identified with Mary, since I am named Mary and am the older sister who likes to do all the domestic things–no tomboy here!
Just last week we had "Cowboy Pasta," which is what I renamed Mac n Cheese with Hot Dogs! My friends thought it was some new exotic dish until I explained.
Gotta love the old favorites!

I am going to check out that little apartment for sure! We have a "little house" and so maybe I will find some ideas for storage and such!
I love, LOVE, love Little House! I read the series as a kid, and we are reading through the series as a family. I could never get tired of it! What a fun tradition to re-read them every winter! 🙂 I love so many aspects of these books~ the close-knit family that cares for each other, how the mother teaches the girls things and they work together (like you mentioned!),how they pull through hard times together, their faith in God, and on and on! 🙂
Did you have a good weekend? I sure hope so! 🙂

Love your books, Manuela! I have a series of Little Women books that my grandmother gave me when I was about 10 and I still have them. It might be nice t reread them this winter.
BTW, I was given an Honest Scrap Award this afternoon and I am awarding it to 7 other bloggers ~ you are one of them! I did a post on it if you want to see how this works.
