Are you all excited about having a fresh start? I am! The New Year really motivates me to think about what I’d like to change or work on. One thing that I’ll be focusing more time on is our finances. I know some of you have that goal too or maybe you know someone that needs help in this area.
I’m so delighted to be able to offer Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover as this month’s book! Most of you know that I’m a big fan of his (although I don’t agree with his politics). He gives good practical advice and I like how he tells it like it is. He has helped millions of people take control of their finances.

I would love this book for my son and DIL. They are overcoming some bad habits and getting on track money-wise, and this is a system they are trying to follow. The book would help them.
Our family has used a "form" of the envelope system. We discovered money missing from our envelopes, so instead we use an envelope to write how much is available (say for food) and then write down how much we spend and subtract. When we reacy -0- then we're done – Oh well….
I never read Dave Ramsey's stuff – a friend of mine had and gave us this idea.

I have heard a lot about Dave Ramsey and have seen him on Neil Caveto. It sounds like a lot of common sense advice. I don't know what his politics are but hopefully they are conservative:) Maybe that is why you don't like him? LOL

I so loved looking around your blog and the gorgeous pictures of your house. Oh my goodness you do such marvelous things. I just love your porch and I'm so envious. I have no place for a porch. I have a sad, neglected west facing patio though. I hope to plant a tree in the backyard this year.
Thanks to you I read the Dave Ramsey book a year ago and we're trying to follow his advice. I even bought the high school course for the kids to do. Wound up we all loved it and I highly recommend it for homeschoolers and non-homeschoolers alike. My oldest has strictly adhered to his advice from this series, has his emergency fund funded and has even started his 401K with the company he works for. He's only 19. It's so great knowing that he'll have better money management skills than we did. So I couldn't sing Dave's praises enough nor your's for introducing me to his philosophies and advice. I know I need advice on investing. I'm 56 years old and had my money invested in something called the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) where I can pick from several plans within TSP. I picked the wrong plan and lost most of my money, so now sit at retirement age without enough to retire with, so I'm facing many more years working than retirement. So yes, I could definitely use Dave Ramsey's book. Count me in!

I've read his books, all are great. Mr. Wonderful and I are signed up at church later this month for his class. We started one last fall, but had to stop due to my Mom going into the hospital.
If I win, I will be giving it to the 24 yr. old daughter of friends. She graduated from college, with tons of student loans and is just overwhelmed. Even with 3 part-time jobs.
