Displaying Plates

By Manuela Williams

You all know I love plates! Generally I don’t like mixing patterns or even colors. Well I like it when I see it in other people’s homes but for some reason I can never get the mix right. So I never know what to do with those one or two plates that I pick up that don’t fit into my usually displays.

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links to Amazon and/or Etsy, which means that I may earn a small commission from some of the links in this post. Please see our Disclosure Page for more information.

But now I have a place to put them! I found this plate rack at TJ Maxx and knew it would be perfect in my home! I always thought I wanted one that you can hang on the wall but I really have run out of wall space so this one is perfect. It sits right on my kitchen counter!

It has a little shelf on the top where I can display cups and saucers and whatever (salt & pepper shakers?). I’m sure I’ll think of other things to display on that shelf!

It also has a little place on the bottom that I thought was perfect for displaying some of my monogrammed silverware. Mmmm…you know, it probably a fancy dishdrainer!

Here are some of the dishes I have displayed today.

I’m looking foward to having lots of fun with this! There’s my one and only lampshade I ever re-covered!

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment. I truly appreciate it! Have a great weekend everyone!

Oh, Manuela, your idea is so timely for me. I just got a great deal on a dozen white cups and saucers, but no place to put them. Of course I even thought of that BEFORE I bought them, BUT, that DID NOT dissuade me! Now I think I'll put the cups and saucers in my glass front hutch and the dissplaced dishes can go in a nice rack. I love your beautiful homey ideas! and blog!

Beautiful plates Manuela. Now see, I am totally different in that I don't like a lot of *stuff* on my kitchen counters.

    I LOVE your beadboard backsplash.

I was wondering if you would mind sharing the name/maker of the plate that has the guy fishing and the next one you show. Blue and brown or aqua and brown. Thanks so much!

You have a wonderful weekend also.

Tina – The guy fishing plate is a Alfred Meakin Staffordshire plate – English Bridges pattern. The aqua and brown plate (a favorite of mine) is from Anthropologie from about 2 or 3 years ago.

Manuela I adore the precious plate rack you found! It's so functional and your plates are beautiful as well.

Thanks for the sweet visit today! We did relocate the spider to a different bush and he made a new web. A few days later we couldn't find it again though. Hmmm…:)

    That looks beautiful!

I love coming here. My husband does not understand my love of dishes in general and the fact that they don't all match in particular (those I collect, of course).

The one thing I miss from my former kitchen is all the counter space.

I like it! What a pretty neat way to display your plates. I have a few haning on a wall in my little dining room, but I'm not really liking that idea too much especially when my noisy/rude neighbors start running and stopming around above me…they vibrate the pictures (or anything for that matter) hanging on my walls..Gaaaa! I'm on the lookout for some monogrammed silverware….everybody in blogland has some except me 🙁

The plates are absolutely lovely! They remind me of ones that were in my Grandmother's china cabinet when I was little. I wonder where those plates are now? I'll have to ask my mother.

The plate rack is beautiful! You have such fabulous ideas!

On the sidebar of your blog, I noticed a picture of your pantry shelves. I have a homemade pantry (bookcase) in a tiny room off my kitchen. I love the "curtain" you have in the picture. I am going to see what I can find at the fabric store and do that too! I also love how the shelves are lined!

Living simply, like most of us have to, we don't often think about little creative touches like that!

    Thanks for the inspiration!

And how long do you think it's going to take me to run out the door to TJMaxx?! That is gorgeous! I don't see many decorating items that I think I just must have, but this is one! I have a plate obsession and a tea cup obsession and a teapot obsession and well… I need this!

I love everything you put in yours and the checked cloth under it. I even have a black and white checked cloth to put under mine when I get it.

Thanks so much for the beautiful inspiration! I think TJMaxx out to give you a little commission for all of these they are going to sell now!
