A Bit of Fall on My Deck

By Manuela Williams

I stopped by Home Depot to get some pansies for my planters on my deck and found a few markdown mums. They’re huge! They were originally something like $13 and now they’re marked down to $2.97.

I trimmed out some of the dead parts. I don’t really know why they’re marked down? They have plenty of buds that still need to open. Anyway, I also plant them in the ground when they’re done blooming and they always come back taller and looser looking (more natural looking I’d say). I don’t know if that works for all garden zones, but it works here in Georgia.

Well I saved on the mums but splurged on that delicious lime green planter! It’s just a bit lighter than my kitchen but I figure it ties the outside in nicely with the inside (see I use my favorite colors and patterns outside as well as in)! It’s large which makes it easy to see from inside the kitchen which is the whole point of this deck anyway.

I don’t have a window over my sink but I have this window! I always try to have something pretty to look at when you look out. That window seat gets used by everybody including the dog. So if you enlarge the photo and see dog hair all on the seat…well that’s Maxie’s hair!

Sometimes I sit here with a book and something to drink. Sometimes my daughter, the dog and myself are all squeezed on the window seat after school! We talk about her day and he gets some lovin! Oh he loves it when everyone pays attention to him!

Hopefully my flowers won’t drown and/or rot with all this rain we’ve been having!

I like gnomes!~smile

That out your window looks like a gorgeous painting. Makes me want to paint my patio furniture red. I forgot how cute your kitchen is!

Way to go on your plants. I got lucky several times this year at Lowe's when I was buying summer plants. Maybe I'll get lucky on mums and pansies too.

Oh you!! You're always doing something do neat. I love that red table and chairs and I know you painted them. I once had a set like that and I painted it bright yellow to go with the green and yellow hedges inside the grassy area. Very nice Manuela. Go get em girl!

We usually have pots of mums sitting around and then do the same as you. Always seems to work.

Love the little tree in your windowbox! I planted only little trees in mine last year. It looked like a mini forest. Love the windowseat! I have the perfect place in the upstairs dormer for one, just never got around to building it.
