Birthday Shopping

By Manuela Williams

Flowers from my daughter

Hello everyone! I had a great birthday! Thank you so much for the lovely birthday wishes. I took myself shopping as a birthday present to myself. Do you do that? I gave myself $50 to spend so I of course headed to TJ Maxx, Ross, Marshalls and Hobby Lobby.

I found some plates that I’ve been wanting for about 5 years! The Thomas Kinkade Cottage series by Spode. I first saw them in Victorian Trading Company catalog but they’ve always been more than I want to spend ($7o!). So I was super excited when I looked on the bottom shelf in the dish section at TJMaxx and saw three plates! I’m missing one in the series (the last one if you click on the link). They were only $3.99 each! TJ Maxx Rocks!! I really do think that I’m lucky with dishes!!

Unbelievably that & the easel holding the plate below is all I bought there! I couldn’t believe it myself. I haven’t been shopping in TJ Maxx – really shopping – since I guess last May maybe. I think that’s when they told my husband they were eliminating his job. Then they fortunately changed their minds and kept him on in a different position at a greatly reduced salary. So it’s been a while since I’ve bought more than just a plate or something on clearance there. I used to go shopping at TJ Maxx at least once a month before the budget cut backs! But I had a really fun time looking at everything and got some ideas for things I want to make.

Went to Ross, which I don’t usually go to often since that store is always a mess and there’s always one cashier and 20 people in line! But I found this cute black and white harlequin glass plate for $1.99

I went to Hobby Lobby and walked out empty handed!! I know…..I’m shocked too! There just wasn’t anything I really wanted. It’s funny how frugality just becomes a normal part of life after a while. Oh well, that just means I have some extra spending money this month.

My husband and daughter got me this for my birthday! Isn’t it great. I’ve been eyeing it in a gardening catalog for a few years now.

The seat swivels all the way around and there’s a little basket on the back so you can have a place for your tools. Can’t you just see me scooting around my yard pulling weeds LOL! If only I could get him to pull me….

….no chance of that! Mostly he’s flat on his side sleeping when I’m outside working.

Well we are done with birthdays and anniversaries until the fall. It’s all been lots of fun but I’m ready for some structure and routine!

It’s fun to get out and, at least, look once in awhile. I’ve found that if I get out to look, I don’t miss buying as much. Love the Thomas Kincaide plates. Sally

It’s great to have the chance to get out and do what you love. And somehow the dishes come to you because you draw in what you love. You see them when no one else would because they were meant for you! They are lovely.

That little cart is missing its pedals! How will you get about on that? LOL!

Happy belated birthday! It looks like you had a wonderful birthday and I’ve put a picture of your garden cart on my wish board. Sometimes waiting and wishing for something is more fun than going right out and buying it. This economy doesn’t allow that now for most people.

    You really inspire me.

Our Hobby Lobby is having a great clearance on fall/winter items…cheap enough that I’d be find with buying and painting them…along with a spray paint thingie!

And a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I love your dishes! I will keep an eye out for the one your missing! I love your garden helper! Blogland has turned me on to all the stores you mentioned. I got to go twice this past month! Spent too much! So I will not get to go for a while1 lol I need now more place to store all the dishes I have bought! I am considering using an old iron table with wooden top with drawers for a buffet and build a shelf above. At least until I can find the antique buffet I want. Hubby stole a rod off it, now I do not weld and he says I can. Trying to get him to fix it. Welding is not my thing! Plus I do not want it to break with my dishes. lol Great gifts you bought for yourself! I have tulips up! Yeah!
