I’ve had a mirror over the cabinet in my dining room for years and years and years! Which I liked – but since I’m going to paint that cabinet and do a few other things in there (sometimes you just get tired of the way things look) I wanted to add some shelves above it to give that area a new look.
I looked all over for some shelves. I found the perfect one at TJMaxx but they only had 1 and even though we tried other locations we couldn’t find another one (I know I’ll go in there next week and they’ll have a bunch!).

So we went to Lowe’s and got some inexpensive brackets and shelves there. The scrolly brackets were around $9 for a package of two and the shelves were almost $4 each.
I like yellow!
I have a ton of milkglass vases that I’ve gotten at the thriftstore over the years. They’re great for holding one or two stems and make a nice statement when grouped together.
I love this spring Brambly Hedge teacup and my Puffin Classics volume of The Secret Garden!
That’s all the a tweaking I’ve done in my dining room so far but there’s more to come!
Gorgeous! I just love the lemony yellow! It looks like springtime daffodils. So bright and pretty:>)
I love how sunny that little vignette is. The scale and the book with the flowers-perfection!
Very pretty, Manuela! Love the shelves there. That happens to me all the time when I go to TJ Maxx {or Marshalls or Home Goods}. I see something I need to get 2 of and they only have one. So disappointing. Last time that happened I blogged about it and a bloggy friend found one for me at her TJ Maxx and asked if I wanted her to pick it up for me! Love the yellow you added in. Sometimes those little tweaks can make just the right difference in a spot.
Great idea for the shelves:) I just might copy you on that… SURPRISE:) Have a blessed week dear Manuela, HUGS!
So cheerful! I have the same book and teacup from my Brambly Hedge collection. Love the yellow scale.
That is the cutest kitchen scale! I love how you are using the pedestal cake plate for displaying other items. Ive just been stacking mine on top of each other. I can’t wait to try your way out!
Yellow is such an up-lifting colour and we need colour so badly right now. This is so nicely put together. I love it all. Deb
I don’t usually use much yellow, but that new chair I got had yellow in it, so I added it to my living room and I loving it. It is such a cheerful color. I really like it with the white. Thanks for continuing to inspire us all.
Your vignettes are always so pretty. I love the shelves and the yellow decor. Will be pinning! 🙂
Thank you Melanie!
Oh yes, love yellow! Reminds me of sunshine. Which we haven’t had much of lately…
Brenda
Yellow and white always looks so fresh…black does the grounding, red adds a bit more pop. Love the shelves instead of the mirror for a change-up that looks great and doesn’t break the bank.
So bright, fresh, cheery, summery….love it! 🙂
Of course I think it all looks fresh and springy, but my favorite part of all is the scale with the book and cup. You have such a great eye for stuff like that.
And I will remember the idea of shelves. I have a mirror in my dining room too, and it’s starting to get… old.
What a pretty display. I like yellow too — but don’t have a lot of in our home… hmmm, might have to fix that! =D
Thanks for stopping by! I find yellow to be so cheerful!
Love the way it turned out! The pops of yellow are just perfect!
I love your new shelves and the way you put things all together. And you know I love yellow, too!
~Adrienne~
Thanks Adrienne! Yellow is my second favorite color (red being first).
I like the yellow too, so sunny and happy.
My town has a fairly new TJMaxx, my son finds lots of great things there too.
Your new shelves look wonderful there and you’ve styled them beautifully. I adore the bright yellow that you’re using there. Lemon yellow, I guess you would call it, eh?
Hugs, Cindy
I adore yellow. Such a cheerful color.
Ohhh pretty bramble hedge cup!!! I am not a big fab of yellow BUT I always love the way you use it xox Clarice
Love your shelves. I think I need to paint my dull old scale a pretty color.
I think this looks so lovely and very charming! I adore the pops of yellow.
This whole vignette is just beautiful. I love, love the trays hanging on thw wall. Just gorgeous.

LOVE IT! All that yellow is so cheery, and I love the artwork on the cover of that edition of The Secret Garden!

Your new look is sheer perfection–I can almost taste the freshness of that lemon yellow
Yellow is my very favorite neutral! Or accent. Or main color inspiration. Yep, I really really love it, lol!
I really love it too and am always amazed at people that dislike it!

Your whole look is fresh a bright. I love anything yellow.
This is a marvelous idea! I have a mirror over our buffet too – seems traditional. Love your yellow – it is a color I have here and there – adds the perfect sunny touch. Of course I LOVE your teacup! I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
