These easy-to-make puffy homemade popovers make a delicious treat to serve for breakfast or as a snack. They’re also wonderful for Easter!
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 room temperature eggs
- 1 1/2 cup of room temperature milk
- 1 1/2 cup of flour, sifted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons of melted butter
- 1 tablespoon of white sugar
- 1 tablespoon of butter cut into tiny cubes
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Place a buttered popover pan into the oven and let it get hot.
- In a mixing bowl, sift 1 ½ cups of all purpose flour.
- Add the salt and sugar and give everything a good mix.
- Add the melted butter and give it a stir.
- Crack the room temperature eggs into the bowl.
- Begin mixing in the eggs until they are incorporated.
- Now add the milk and mix until they are well blended.
- Continue to mix. You can do this by hand, or in a blender.
- Mix until the batter is smooth.
- Allow the batter to rest at room temperature for a few moments.
- Pull the hot popover pan out of the oven and drop one small cube of butter into each well.
- Immediately pour the popover batter into the popover pan and put it into the oven. You may want to put a cookie sheet under it, just in case.
- Bake the popovers at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes and then reduce the oven heat to 350 degrees, and continue baking for another 10 minutes.
- Immediately upon removing from the oven, remove the popovers from the tin by tipping it onto another baking sheet. Pierce the top of each popover with a knife to allow steam to release. This will keep your popovers from turning mushy.
- Serve while hot for the best flavor. But these popovers store well and can be reheated or enjoyed cold.
