Instructions
Donut Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Lightly spray a donut pan with nonstick cooking spray, or lightly butter it.
- Begin by sifting 1 ½ cups of flour into a mixing bowl. Most flour has been pre-sifted, but as you can see in the photo there are bound to be lumps. Discard them.
- Add sugar, salt, baking soda, baking powder and cocoa to the flour.
- Give everything a stir so the dry ingredients are all incorporated together.
- Now crack in an egg, and add the vegetable oil, buttermilk, and vanilla.
- Begin mixing until the batter is combined and free of lumps. It will be thick.
- Gently spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each reservoir about halfway full.
- Place the donut pan on a cookie sheet to prevent oven spills.
- Bake at 375 for 8 to 9 minutes. This would be a good time to mix up the glaze.
- Remove the donut pan and let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Then transfer them to a cooling rack.
- When the donuts are cool (wait about 30 minutes) you can glaze them.
Glaze Directions
- 1. Pour 1 cup of powdered sugar into a mixing bowl.
- Add vanilla, cocoa, and 1 Tablespoon of heavy cream to the powdered sugar.
- Add 4 drops of each color of food coloring.
- Begin mixing until smooth.
- You can add more heavy cream if needed to achieve the desired consistency. Keep stirring until smooth.
- Dip the donut into the glaze and immediately move to a cooling rack to allow the glaze to dry.
- Top the donuts with some fun Halloween sprinkles, serve, and enjoy!
