Description
These apple fritters are easy to put together, and make a delicious dessert!
Ingredients
Scale
- 3–4 large apples
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- ½ tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ¼ tsp. salt
- ½ cup milk
- 1 egg, large
- ½ tsp. vanilla
- ½ cup powdered or granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- oil for frying
Instructions
- Peel, core, and dice apples, toss with lemon juice and brown sugar, set aside.
- In a separate bowl combine powdered or granulated sugar and additional cinnamon for coating.
- Preheat oil in a small pot to 350 degrees. You want the oil to be a few inches deep, so you may need to use 2-4 cups of oil.
- Line a large plate with paper towels to drain.
- Mix together flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt.
- Stir in milk, egg, and vanilla. Finally fold in diced apples.
- Drop mixture into hot grease by the spoonful- they do not need to be large as you will see them quickly puff up quite a bit. And if you make them too big, they won’t cook evenly all the way through, leaving the insides too soft. About a teaspoon of the mixture is a good amount to use for each fritter.
- Cook until golden- after about 1 minute on one side, flip and brown the other side. Do not crowd the pot, I recommend no more than 3-4 at a time.
- Remove from oil, drain on paper towel covered plate for 1 minute.
- While still hot- toss in the cinnamon sugar coating.
