I wanted to show you guys my new chalkboard kitchen wall and a few little changes in the kitchen! My kitchen has been in a crazy state lately because I’m clearing my counters off, re-organizing cabinets and purging lots of stuff. So this chalkboard project started because I had lots of stuff sitting on this part of my kitchen counter (next to my cook top) that I moved to other places and then, since this area looked so nice, I just wanted a new look. 🙂 So I painted that wall with some chalkboard paint that I already had and… [Read More]
I only did a little decorating for the 4th of July since we won’t be home for most the day anyway. I re-did the chalkboard in my dining room with a 4th of July theme. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend!
I’m sure quite a few (maybe many) of you are probably sick of snow! We haven’t seen any yet. Well we did see a few light flurries but it didn’t stick. So that doesn’t count. We had a gloomy rainy day yesterday so I played with my chalkboard in my dining room and created some snowflake chalkboard art! Making a big chalkboard has proven to be one of the most fun projects I’ve ever done. It’s so easy to change around – since it’s chalk! To recap how I made the chalkboard itself – I already had the frame –… [Read More]
Happy New Year! I’m so grateful of your support of this blog that has grown so much this past year and I wish you all happiness and great success in this New Year! Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so they’ll be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want! -Margaret Young (from Simple Abundance A Daybook… [Read More]
I wanted to share with you all our fun Thanksgiving Mantel! I took down my “fall” mantel to get ready for Christmas, but wanted to do a little something that was quick and easy to help get us in the mood to celebrate Thanksgiving. We start decorating for Christmas right after Thanksgiving so it won’t be up for long. Since we don’t do Black Friday, I usually spend the day going through my Christmas stuff deciding what to put where. My husband is in retail and now has to work on Thanksgiving Day through the following Saturday. Anyway, Black Friday… [Read More]
So a while ago I said I wanted to make a new chain cover for my dining room chandelier but I wasn’t sure what color/pattern of material to use. You wouldn’t think it would be hard to decide on such a little thing would you? But I find that it’s the little details that make a room. Sure the big elements make the biggest statement, but it’s often the little things that bring it all together and add personality! Anyway, all of that is to say that I made a chain cover for my chandelier 🙂 Well, first I made… [Read More]
I have a bunch of artificial hydrangea stems that I’ve collected over the years. By the time I normally buy them there aren’t too many left so I never have a lot of just one kind. I took my mix of hydrangeas and made simple fall centerpiece for my dining room table that I really like. I’ll probably add a few more pumpkins as we get closer to October. I do have lots of real hydrangeas and in the summer I have plenty of fresh ones to use. Fresh flowers are lovely, but not every one wants to spend money… [Read More]
Hi! If you’re new here at A Cultivated Nest, welcome! Today I’m sharing my fall mantel decor! My decorating style is a more colorful one – so I had to add some pops of color on there. By the way, my fireplace is a fake one that we built. You can see how we made it here. I found some pine cone candlesticks at TJMaxx that I thought would be fun to use (they also have them in gold and silver). I decoupaged orange doilies from Michael’s $1 bins onto 2 pumpkins for a shot of color. The pumpkin towards… [Read More]
